Certification Standard for Biobased Content

Version:

1.1

Status:

Final Standard

Revision Status:

Not Under Revision

Description:

This standard (SCS-114) is applicable to organizations that wish to make verified claims regarding the physical or attributed biobased content of materials and products. It provides a framework for verifying that physical or attributed biobased content is traceable back to eligible certified biomass sources through a chain of certified entities, using either mass balance allocation or physical segregation. Certification against SCS-114 requires organizations to maintain chain-of-custody controls and substantiated biobased content claims throughout production and distribution. Certification supports supply chain transparency and increased use of renewable biomaterials as alternatives to fossil-based resources.

For complete information about all standard criteria, download "SCS-114 Biobased Content Standard V1.1" (see Documents section, to right).

Assurance System:

Conformance with SCS-114 requirements is assessed through annual audits conducted by SCS Global Services, a qualified and independent third party. Audits are conducted according to scheme-specific and relevant international standards. For full details about the SCS-114 assurance system, download “SCS-114 Certification Body Requirements” (see Documents section, to right).
