Verification Standard for Recycling Operations

Version:

5.0

Status:

Final Standard

Description:

This standard (SCS-106) is applicable to organizations conducting recycling operations who wish to make substantiated claims regarding their recycling rates and the materials they recycle. It provides a framework for verifying the classification, quantity, type, and destination of materials processed by recycling operations, and for quantifying waste diversion and recycling rates. Certification against SCS-106 demonstrates that recovered materials are processed into usable recycled materials and diverted from landfill, incineration, or permanent storage. By promoting transparency and accountability in recycling operations, verification supports resource recovery, increases waste diversion, and advances circular economy objectives.

For complete information about all standard criteria, download "SCS-106 Verification Standard for Recycling Operations V5.0" (see Documents section, to right).

Assurance System:

Conformance with SCS-106 requirements is assessed through annual audits conducted by SCS Global Services, a qualified and independent third party. Audits are conducted according to scheme-specific and relevant international standards. For full details about the SCS-106 assurance system, download “SCS-106 Certification Body Requirements” (see Documents section, to right).
