Certification Standard for Responsible Chemical Recycling

This standard (SCS-004) is applicable to organizations conducting advanced, chemical, or molecular recycling that wish to demonstrate their commitment to responsible recycling practices. It provides a framework for independently assessing and certifying the environmental and social performance of chemical recycling processes and chemical recycling operations. SCS-004 is based on the Responsible Production Guidelines to Ensure Progressive Advanced / Chemical / Molecular Recycling Operations White Paper, published by the Ocean Plastic Leadership Network (now, CIRCLE). Through a tiered certification system, SCS-004 recognizes progress and encourages continuous improvement. By promoting transparency and responsible recycling practices, the standard supports the circular economy, increases the diversion of waste from landfill and incineration, and advances more sustainable materials management.

Assurance System:

Conformance with SCS-004 requirements is assessed through annual audits conducted by SCS Global Services, a qualified and independent third party. Audits are conducted according to scheme-specific and relevant international standards.
