Dr. Melanie Williams

Consultant

Melanie is a consultant with SCS Standards. She is a chemist and environmental scientist with more than twenty years of industrial experience supporting sustainability standards and assurance systems. Melanie brings deep expertise in social, environmental, and economic sustainability principles, as well as chain of custody systems. Her work spans the development and application of sustainability frameworks for the production and processing of commodities such as metals, chemicals, biomaterials, and biomass, along with the design of performance standards and chain of custody operations.

Her experience also includes advising processing industries on greenhouse gas calculations, sustainable procurement, supply chain traceability, stakeholder consultation processes, including free, prior, and informed consent, labor rights, environmental impact assessments, biodiversity protection, sustainable land use, material stewardship, and recycling. Melanie holds a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Cambridge.
